"Gears of War: Judgment" will include a secondary campaign called "Aftermath" connecting the prequel to the end of "Gears of War 3," according to a new developer diary.

"Aftermath" takes place during the last sequence of "Gears of War 3," when Baird and Cole leave the main party to go find re-enforcements for their final assasult. According to the video, the sequence will bring back characters players meet in "Judgment," connecting the game to larger "Gears" universe.

Since the epilogue references events from the main "Judgment campaign, "Aftermath" is only accessible once players have gotten enough stars, earned by completing sections of the game, optional missions, and skill-based achievements. In other words, "Aftermath" isn't something everybody will just get to play: You'll have to earn it.

Microsoft's Major Nelson teased "Aftermath" last week in advance of a "world premiere" livestream, which aired on Xbox Live on Sunday night. The mode was first "revealed" when the game's achievement list was leaked, only indicating that the mode was unlockable.

"Gears of War: Judgment" hits stores March 19th.
