‘Overwatch’ Latest News & Update: Halloween Patch Is Out; 16 Teams To Battle At The Overwatch World Cup

Recently, a leaked image of the new "Overwatch" character Sombra surfaced online. Blizzard allegedly made an internal announcement that the new "Overwatch" Halloween update may include Sombra, a new Brawl, as well as a variety of loot boxes.

On Reddit, "Overwatch" fans saw a rumored screenshot of the upcoming massive update, which features over 100 items. Included in the list are emotes, new skins, victory poses, highlight intros, player icons and voice lines. Blizzard also shared that they are working on a number of upcoming heroes, one of which may become available before the end of 2016. Another one is set to arrive early in 2017. It is still uncertain whether Sombra will be the next hero to release.

Blizzard reported that the Halloween "Overwatch" update was officially out on Oct. 11, 2016, although without Sombra. The new "Overwatch" patch 1.10 provided the very first PvE brawl in the game, called Junkenstein's Revenge. The co-op brawl will let players work with three others to defend Adlersbrunn castle from waves of Junkenstein's minions. Dr. Junkenstein, Junkenstein's Monster, the Reaper, a witch and several zomnics will be attacking the castle in the Halloween mode.

All loot boxes in the game have been substituted with unique glowing jack-o'-lanterns and over 100 new cosmetic treats that players can unlock. In the Hero Gallery, players can also unlock the new customization items using credits. Any loot box that "Overwatch" players earn or buy until Nov. 1, 2016 will feature at least one item from the Halloween 2016 collection, such as skins, profile icons, victory poses, emotes, sprays and highlight intros, among others.

Aside from the "Overwatch" Halloween update, Blizzard is also getting ready for the Overwatch World Cup. The major event will take place at Blizzcon 2016 on October 29. There will be a series of qualifying matches among 16 teams from all over the world that will battle to become "Overwatch" champions. The 16 contending teams are Australia and New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand and USA. More updates and details on "Overwatch" are expected soon.
