SimCity Damage Control: Time to Get Your Free EA Game

After the launch debacle that was the first few days of "SimCity," crippling gamers ability to pay the game, EA had promised players a free game as a way of apologizing. Today is the day for players to redeem that offer.

Maxis head Lucy Bradshaw explains the offer on EA's blog, saying: "to get us back in your good graces, we're going to offer you a free PC download game from the EA portfolio. On March 18, SimCity players who have activated their game will receive an email telling them how to redeem their free game.

In a new blog post, EA clarified the offer a bit, offering players their choice of one of eight games for their server troubles:

- "Battlefield 3"
- "Bejewled 3"
- "Dead Space 3"
- "Dead Space 3"
- "Mass Effect 3"
- "Medal of Honor: Warfighter"
- "Need for Speed: Most Wanted"
- "Plants vs. Zombies"
- "SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition"

Players have a week to redeem the offer.

Is this enough to make up for EA's "SimCity" launch? When you factor in the server issues at launch, the fact that the game seemingly can run offline, many will no doubt argue that it's not, but I'm sure they'll gobble up a free game anyway.
