'Candy Crush Saga' Game Show Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update:: Can Viewers Bring Back The Mobile App's Popularity?

The popular mobile game "Candy Crush Saga" will soon have a live-action game show on CBS. "Candy Crush" developer King has partnered with Lionsgate Television and CBS to adapt the puzzle game into an hour-long competition between two players against each other using "giant interactive game boards."

Players have to power through various levels and only one will be crowed as the "Candy Crush Saga" Champion. There are still no details revealed about the mechanics and what the players will face in each levels but it has been said that viewers will also be able to participate in the game at home.

In an interview reported by Variety, CBS Entertainment president Glenn Geller said that they are huge fans of the "Candy Crush Saga". They are very excited to work with Lionsgate and King to adapt the world's most popular and entertaining game franchises for television. Lionsgate TV chief Kevin Beggs also recoginzed "Candy Crush Saga" to have potential for TV.

"Candy Crush Saga" game developer, Sebastin Knutsson, will serve as an executive producer on the show alongside Matt Kunitz of ABC's "Wipeout" and NBC's "Fear Factor." "Candy Crush Saga" was originally launched in 2012 on Facebook.

With an average 18 billion game rounds played per month, "Candy Crush Saga" and "Candy Crush Soda" are still two of the top 10 grossing mobile games in the U.S. However, the game has lost its popularity over time, leading to declining revenues. Meanwhile, sequels like "Soda Saga" and "Jelly Saga" are not doing quite well.

The Guardian reports that Think Gaming estimates that "Candy Crush Saga" was earning $633,000 a day in app purchases. Its game developer filed for an initial public offering of $7 billion in 2014. The stock immediately crashed in November 2015 for $5.9 billion.

The game's declining popularity is one reason why the software company wants to turn and expand the property into another form of media. There are still no details about when the possible live-action game show of "Candy Crush Saga" will air on TV. But stay tuned to GamenGuide for more updates on the "Candy Crush Saga" game show!
