Single Player Gameplay of 'Titanfall 2' Focuses On The Friendship Between Man and Machine

The single-player campaign of "Titanfall 2" is set in a dystopian world which allows the player to live through an intimate perspective on the friendship between man and machine. The third-class militia rifleman named Jack Cooper wants to be a pilot and finds himself teaming up with BT. On the other hand, the Titan protagonist BT-7274 or BT for short is a vanguard class Titan left to his own devices after his pilot was killed in action. Instead of being a mindless automaton, BT shows a distinct personality and awareness which reminds us of a friend we wish we had.

To capture a realistic and dynamic duo, the creators took inspiration from buddy cop movies in the 80s, Akira Kurosawa's samurais, and Clint Eastwood's western gun battles. They also made BT take on more humanoid characteristics and mannerisms. Take for example, BT is right handed when someone is piloting him and reverts back to being left handed when on his own.

Respawn Art Director, Joel Emslie, said in Verge:

"It was very important to ensure that even if you put BT up against a frosted glass window and could just see his silhouette like a shadow puppet, that his silhouette had to completely stand out against all of the other titans,"

Apart from the relationship between Jack and BT, new characters and locations were introduced like Ash, the hooded character having robotic features. In a post through Twitter, Respawn provides a short bio:

"Ash is a simulacrum rebuilt by Vinson Dynamics after the destruction of the Automated Testing Facility on Typhon. Seeks to discover the secrets of her past, and believes the answers lie in the data banks of the Remnant Fleet. Last Known Location: Boomtown."

Compared to its prequel, which focused between the clash of Militia and IMC to provide a foreground for the multiplayer gameplay, Titanfall 2 dares to be different and tackles the AI concept equipped with destructive weapons and its potential relationship with human beings. The sequel will be launched on October 28, 2016 in multiple platforms: Playstation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
