Ouya Ships To Kickstarter Backers Today

Kickstarter backers should see start seeing their Ouyas in a few days time, all 63,000 and change. On Thursday the company began shipping the consoles to supporters who pledged $95 or more.

"Keep an eye on your inbox! The first @playouya shipment is en route and a steady flow will ship for the next several weeks #ouyaGoesPostal" reads a tweet from the company's official Twitter account earlier today.

Ouya managed to set a crowd sourcing record when they launched their Kickstarter campaign. At the beginning, they had a goal of $950,000, which they blew past by $50,000 before the campaign's first day was over.

When the kickstarter for the Ouya began, it had a goal of raising $950,000, which is pretty high compared to other kickstarter campaigns. It reached that goal, and went beyond it by $50,000 before the first 24 hours were over. "We never expected to do this well and be this well-received," says Ouya's CEO, Julie Uhrman. "It's just truly amazing that it's resonated so well with gamers and developers." By the time the smoke cleared, a whopping $8,580,682 was raised by over 63,000 people.

Apparently the idea of a cheap, customizable system was an interesting concept to a lot of people. Who'd a thunk it?

If you never bothered to back the campaign, but you're still interested in picking up your own Ouya, it's set to hit store shelves on June 4th.
