CONSOLES

Ouya Set to Hit Shelves on June 4th

Ouya kickstarter backers' consoles may have begun shipping yesterday, but the rest of us won't have too much longer to wait until we can try this little gadget.

The team confirmed today via press release that the console is set to arrive in the US, Canada, and the UK on June 4th, for a modest $99. A number of retailers will be offering the Ouya, including Best Buy, Target, GAME, GameStop, and Amazon.

"Nine months ago, we shared an idea for an immersive, beautiful and powerful game console that generated an outpouring of support from game developers, gamers, technology enthusiasts, and more. With that, we set out to bring the OUYA concept to life, and today, we're delivering," said Julie Uhrman, CEO of OUYA.

Apart from providing access to every game that's available in the Android AppStore, around 8,000 third party developers have pledged support for the Ouya, including big names like Square-Enix and DoubleFine Productions. Every game featured on the console is said to include a free-to-play model in one capacity or another, even if it's just providing a demo.

With Ouyas on their way out to the campaign backers, reviews should eventually start to trickle in. We'll let you know what the verdict is as soon as we can.
