The release date of "The Originals" Season 4 has been the subject of many speculations since it was announced that unlike in its first three seasons, the coming one will have a midseason premiere. Now, it would seem that the fans' wait won't be for long because the new season is expected to be out on January of 2017.
EP Julie Plec also explained that the midseason premiere of "The Originals" Season 4 may have disappointed fans but according to her, it may actually be beneficial to the series, story-wise reports TV Line. This is because the shift on the air date somehow gave them the freedom to shift the timeline in the show's favor. This way, adds Plec, the series can have more time pass between seasons than "The Vampire Diaries".
Plec further said that an extra couple of years will be added to "The Originals" between seasons. The creative team now do not have to worry about being side by side with the parent show.
"The Originals" Season 4 will be set five years after the events of last season when it returns to the small screen. When last seen, the Mikaelsons experienced overwhelming defeat at the hands of Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) reports MTV News. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) is still being held captive by his surrogate son. The other Mikaelsons exist in a different dimension in order to be away from Marcel's clutches and buy Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) some more time to get help.
Hayley took Hope with her and because of the five-year time jump, viewers will obviously see Klaus and Hayley's daughter older when "The Originals" returns. Tonkin revealed that although her TV daughter has not been around her father for the five years that elapsed, there will be a lot of Klaus in Hope.
Meanwhile, Klaus will be nervous on meeting his daughter after five years since he missed a big part of her life. He will have no idea how Hope will deal with their situation in "The Originals" Season 4, where the story of Hope will be integrated. For some reason, Hope is the only one in her family who is immune from a werewolf bite.
