Jeremy Lin Net Worth 2016: 'Linsanity' Star Donates $1 Million to Harvard

Linsanity star Jeremy Lin knows how to give back to his alma mater big time. The Brooklyn Nets point guard has donated $1 million for the renovation of Harvard University's basketball arena.

The 28-year-old basketball player is giving a piece of his $38-million guaranteed earning for the three-year contract he signed with the Nets. Lin has always recognized Harvard as his stepping stone to the NBA and his rise to stardom.

Way to thank Harvard

"Without question, my time at Harvard prepared me well for success both on and off the court," Lin said. He also explained that he feels honored to help promising student athletes have a good place to practice and play their games.

Lin was part of the Harvard Crimson men's basketball team for four years from 2006 to 2010 and became captain in his senior year. He also became part of the All-Ivy League selection for three consecutive seasons.

Inspiring generosity

Harvard College Dean of admissions William R. Fitzsimmons said he considers Lin's generosity as an inspiring act since he shares whatever he has to other student athletes. Fitzsimmons added that Lin's generosity will be a great help to undergrads who need financial aid for their studies and to improve on their craft.

The donation of Lin to his school did not come as a shock to many especially with the millions of earnings of the Linsanity star from playing basketball. His current winnings/salary, which is mainly from his basketball career, is pegged at $14.9 million. He also has an additional $4 million earnings from his product endorsements.

He began earning these figures in 2012 when he signed a $25-million deal with the Houston Rockets. He was then traded to the Los Angeles Lakers two years later where he earned $14.9 million during his last year of his contract.
