‘Star Wars Battlefront 3’ Early Gameplay Footage: What’s It All About? [LEAKS]

LucasArts may have been shut down but the company, in its heyday, was developing an unnamed game that would be set in the “Star Wars” universe. While little is known about what the game would be about, a recent leak says the game was codenamed ‘Version Two.’

Although only called ‘Version Two,’ from the leaked gameplay video it seems like this “Star Wars” project bears a strong resemblance to the much loved “Star Wars Battlefront” series. The video showed up on Kotaku and gives a glimpse into a game that was still in development right up until the studio was shut down.

The footage sheds major light on vehicular and first-person combat, alongside weapons, vehicles and maps from both "Star Wars" trilogies. What's shown looks to be pretty far along in the development process.

“In the video, you can see all sorts of vehicle combat: the player, looking from a first-person perspective, zips around in X-Wings and AT-AT Walkers while shooting down TIE Fighters and other Star Wars-y vehicles. The art isn't final, but the combat looks very cool: one section, for example, shows multiple players riding on hoverbikes and shooting lasers at everything in their paths,” Kotaku writes.

The new leak jibes with what Free Radical Design co-founder Steve Ellis’ said in an interview with gamesTM magazine last year that development on “Star Wars: Battlefront” was “a 99% finished game.”

“We were making a game with very high ambition. You could start a battle on the ground, jump into a ship and fly into space, continuing on to dock in a capital ship and continue the battle there. We'd had to build all kinds of new tech and overcome numerous technical challenges and limitations but we had done it,” Ellis said.

“It should have been our most successful game, but it was cancelled for financial reasons.”

Given what happened to LucasArts it is unlikely the game will ever be released.
