Celebrity contestant and Olympic Gold medalist swimmer Ryan Lochte's stint in Rio has come to an end. As he and his partner Cheryl Burke was the seventh pair to be eliminated on Dancing with the Stars last Monday. The pair got the lowest scores from the judges and viewers' votes combined from last week's "Eras Night" theme of the dance competition series.
Ryan Lochte and Cheryl Burke were at the bottom two this week with fellow contestants Terra Jole and Sasha Farber. Lochte and Burke got 28 out of 40 points for their Samba routine while the team of Jole and Farber got 34 out of 40. In the end Burke and Lochte were the seventh pair to leave the Dancing with the Stars stage after he received a standing ovation for his farewell address.
The swimmer also took advantage of the Dancing with the Stars stage by addressing the controversy of the Rio robbery scandal. Lochte entered the reality dance competition to repair his broken image. The 32-yea-old gold medalist fabricated a story during the Olympics that he and three other members of the USA swimming team were robbed at gun point at Rio.
During Lochte's entire run in the Dancing with the Stars, although he seemed to win over fans, he was nearly attacked by two men during the show's premier night. The attackers were arrested. Lochte has spent 8 weeks into the competition before being sent home. There is a speculation that Lochte was sent home due to the Rio scandal. However, there is no confirmation that the Olympian was booted out due to the scandal.
Currently, after his run in Dancing with the Stars, Lochte is serving a 10-month suspension from the USA swimming team, loosing many endorsement deals in the process. Still, the swimmer faces each day full of hope. This is seen on how the swimmer described his thoughts looking back at his time in the show. According to Lochte, the show taught him a lot about himself. Being in the show made him realize that no matter what happen, he will always get back up.
