Barrage of Nintendo Classics Set To Hit Wii U's Virtual Console This Week

Nintendo has a bleak future, with low sales of their new console, so why not turn inward and lavish gamers with some old school goodness?

Nintendo will be offering gamers a look back at the glory days of the late 80's and early 90's when Nintendo was the big name on the block, with eight classics set to hit the Wii U's Virtual Console this week.

Games like Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, and F-Zero from the original NES and it's 16-bit big brother, the SNES, are set to get their day in the sun once more.

Siliconera reports that in addition to these games, Nintendo will also release the following games for the service:

- Donkey Kong Jr.
- Excitebike
- Kirby's Adventure
- Punch-Out!
- Super Mario World

It's a short list, sure, but according to a reel from last week's Nintendo Direct, more games (like Earthbound) should be on the way. Alongside the games, the Wii U will also be getting a system update which includes a demo for the panoramic view feature Nintendo patented late last year.
