Everyone and their Wookie comrades know the name Star Wars. The globally iconic sci-fi phenomenon has penetrated all mediums of entertainment ranging from feature films, comics, television, and video games. However, could we see a Netflix adaptation of the hit MMORPG "Star Wars: The Old Republic"?

According to Morning News USA, a Netflix show about "Star Wars: The Old Republic" is closer to an actual possibility than previously thought. Star Wars fans from around the world started and signed a petition on Change.org in hopes of bringing the video game series to a local streaming device near you. The petition has already managed to garner more than 75,000 signatures.

Fans are very interested in the backstory "Star Wars: The Old Republic" can offer in a television series because it delves into a time before the cinematic classics; over 3000 years prior in fact. The petitioners have expressed their desire to see fan-favorite characters such as Revan, Darth Malak, and Balista come to life on-screen as they claim "it would do a massive disservice to us if these stories weren't told."

As reported by Slash Film, "Star Wars: The Old Republic" petitioners have expressed their desire for the show to come out on Netflix in particular because of several reasons. Mainly, they feel the high quality of shows Netflix has been able to produce over the years is a major plus. They feel Netflix will do these stories from days gone by justice and will provide an alternatively darker look to the Star Wars universe.

The realization of a "Star Wars: The Old Republic" themed television show is closer than it ever was before, but it still might not be close enough. The petition mainly serves to show that fans have a vested interest in a possible show such as this, but unless the petition garners an astronomical sum of signatures, it is unlikely for Disney to hit the switch on this.

It is worth nothing, however, that Lucas Arts and Disney have been in talks of a new Star Wars-themed TV show, but the backdrop "Star Wars: The Old Republic" being used is uncertain. A Netflix show could just be what they have in store, but only time will tell.
