Samsung W2017 Release Date, Features & Update: Flip Phone To Arrive 2017 With More Powerful Specifications; Priced At Almost $3,000?

Rumors of the Samsung W2017 began circulating earlier in 2016. The Samsung W2017 is said to be a flip phone with powerful specifications that marks the return of the classic design without compromising on features.

Sam Mobile reported that Samsung is developing the W2017, a high-end flip phone for China. The smartphone was previously codenamed "Veyron," with several leaked images surfacing in the past few months.

The company officially announced that the Samsung W2017 will indeed arrive in China. It will come with high quality components that can compete with the latest flagship models.

Samsung W2017 Specs & Features: Two Screens; Dual-SIM With 4G LTE

The Samsung W2017 will reportedly have two screens - a 4.2-inch external display, and an internal Full HD Super AMOLED display. The device will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory, expandable via microSD card.

The Samsung W2017 will also feature a 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture that can record 4K videos, and a 5-megapixel front shooter. The smartphone is a dual-SIM model with 4G LTE support, a 2300mAh battery, fingerprint sensor, Samsung Pay support and the Always On Display feature.

The Samsung W2017 measures 127.8 x 61.4 x 15.8mm and weighs 208 grams. It will have a metal body and reportedly costs close to $3000. Samsung has yet to announce the official release date, although it is unlikely that the Samsung W2017 will become available outside of China, considering the price.

Samsung W2017 Features & Specs: Gold & Black Colors Coming?

Early images of the Samsung W2017 hinted that it may come in gold and black color. The smartphone has a number pad and navigation button, similar to classic flip phones. Its predecessor ran on the Android Lollipop out of the box, so the new version may feature either Android M or N.

Android Central wrote that the demand for flip phones has returned, especially in Asian countries. Samsung and LG have been featuring flip phones, particularly the Samsung W2016, which became available in 2015 at $1480.

The Samsung W2017 is set to follow the success of its predecessor by showcasing powerful specifications, wide support and connectivity, and a useful and convenient interface. It is still uncertain how the higher price tag will affect buyers in 2017.
