Grandview, MO has a need, a need for speed, and they're having that need granted as of today. After arriving in Raytown last week, Grandview is the latest Missouri city to snap up the super fast high speed internet that is Google Fiber.
The service provides users with connection speeds of roughly one gigabit per second, about 100 times faster than what most Americans have.
Launched in 2011, Grandview joins a number of other bread basket locations that have Google Fiber, including Kansas City and North Kansas City in Missouri, and Olathe, Shawnee, and Kansas City in Kansas.
Google still has to plan and engineer the network before Grandview residents can go zipping around the net at lightspeed though.
According to Grandview Mayor Steve Dennis, Google will build the network based on demand. Once pre-registration goals are met, service kicks in for pre-determined "fiberhoods." It's the mayor's hope that the new network will help local economy by creating new jobs and expanding businesses.
“We are delighted to partner with Google to bring this cutting edge fiber-optic system to the Grandview community,” says Grandview Mayor Steve Dennis in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide this unique innovation opportunity for our citizens, school district, and home-based businesses.”
Google plans to build similar networks in Austin, Texas and Provo, Utah sometime in 2014.
