'The Last Guardian' Release Date, News & Updates: Game Finally Happening After 10 Years! More Details Here!

A decade ago, if you were a big PlayStation 2 fan, you may have heard of the puzzle platformers "Ico" and "Shadow of the Colossus." Both games were quite cinematic in their narrative execution, but complex in their depth, gameplay, and difficulty. They ended up getting cult followings, and their designer Fumito Ueda was hailed as a genius and artist. Now, years after Ueda came out with both games for the PS2, he's finally back with his latest offering, "The Last Guardian."

Coming exclusively for the PlayStation 4, "The Last Guardian" is another action-adventure game in the same vein as his first two games. After hearing word of its development for almost 10 years, appearing for the first time in last year's E3 and once again this year, it's finally showing up next month.

"The Last Guardian" revolves around a boy and a flying cat/dragon animal called Trico, and they must traverse the game world in a way that allows them to escape their pursuers. Interacting with Trico is the main puzzle of the game, as the player must use different ways to get Trico to help them.

Ueda specifically designed Trico in order for players to have a deliberate emotional investment toward it, reports The Verge. Both the protagonist and Trico's personal growth is intertwined because of their close relationship as "The Last Guardian" goes on.

After "The Last Guardian" comes out, Ueda may take a long while before putting out a new project, the Toronto Sun reports. He has been working on it for a decade, after all, and that is still pretty tiring, even if he has only worked on it on and off the entire time.

"The Last Guardian" is coming out exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on December 6, barring any last-minute setbacks in its development. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more news and updates.
