The star of the diverse Freeform family drama "The Fosters" has shared her piece on the results of the 2016 presidential elections in the United States. Australian native Maia Mitchell has also sent her message of love to people of all races, gender and religion living in the country.

Business mogul Donald Trump emerged as the unexpected winner in the recent polls in the U.S., thanks to the Electoral College process. But for many young people like Maia, Clinton was the winner of the popular vote.

Maia's message

"Hug the people you love today. Know that we are in this together," said the 23-year-old actress who plays Callie Jacob on "The Fosters." "Sending so much love to LGBTQ, Muslim, Native American, black, Latino & female Americans. You are loved."

"The Fosters" revolves on the story of Callie, a teenager from juvy, who was taken in by lesbian couple Stef and Lena. The partners already have their own children which is a mix of biological and adopted children.

Diverse TV series

The TV show's storyline is diverse and presents the life of a lot of people in the US including members of the LGBT community and immigrants. This could be the reason why Maia is also highly concerned with Trump's victory since the President-elect has appeared hostile to many of these groups in the past.

Air date

"The Fosters" Season 4B is set to air on Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. on Freeform. It is expected to end by April and will take the spot of "Pretty Little Liars" on the TV network.

The midseason finale left many viewers of "The Fosters" at the edge of their seats because of the cliffhangers for some of the main characters. Jesus, who accidentally punched a nail into his head, was hit on the head and knocked out by Mariana's ex Nick. Jesus has been extremely cautious because of seizure risks.
