'Luke Cage' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Diamondback, Luke Cage To Reconcile; Jessica Jones, Luke Cage To Have Baby?

Netflix's "Luke Cage" Season 2 is still a long way ahead, what with the upcoming "The Defenders" miniseries with fellow Marvel superheroes Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist. But amid the excitement for this "The Avengers"-like team of superheroes coming to Netflix next year remain several unanswered questions regarding the storyline of everyone's favorite rock-hard superhero. What awaits Luke Cage (played by Mike Colter) in the Netflix show's second season?

Future storylines for 'Luke Cage' Season 2

Among the storylines being explored for "Luke Cage" Season 2 involves the relationship between Diamondback and Luke Cage as brothers. In an interview with Bustle, actor Erik LaRay Harvey talked about how this unexpected relationship could help moderate expectations of a typical protagonist/antagonist showdown.

Diamondback and Luke Cage were best friends back when they were still Willis Stryker and Carl Lucas, Romper reported. However, they had fallen apart over the years after the Judas bullet incident. Diamondback has since taken over Cottonmouth as the main villain in "Luke Cage" Season 1, and will likely appear in "Luke Cage" Season 2 and on "The Defenders" as well.

Redemption for Stryker

Harvey also expressed his hopes that "Luke Cage" Season 2 will see the brothers get along in a redemption arc. But, while well-intentioned, it's unlikely to happen on the series--or at least, not as early as on "Luke Cage" Season 2.

In an interview with IGN, actor Mike Colter also discussed Luke Cage's future, not just in "Luke Cage" Season 2 but in future Marvel storylines as well. He mentioned that the studio planned to develop the characters further in their own series before doing "The Defenders," or a possible "Heroes for Hire" series.

It's also possible that either "Luke Cage" Season 2 or "The Defenders" would adopt a 2000-comic book arc where Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) and he have a child whom they name Danielle, in honor of Danny Rand (Iron Fist). Stay tuned for more updates on "Luke Cage" Season 2.
