On Wednesday, Riri Williams, a female Ironman finally debuted on her own comic series "Invincible Ironman." However, since the announcement of a new Ironman was announced last July, Riri Williams has been involved in a heated controversy despite her comic book career being in the early stage.
The female Ironman, Riri Williams is a 15 year old engineering student and daughter of the late Riri Wiliams Senior. She grew up with her mother and sister Sharon. Inspite of her young age, Riri Williams is a certified genius which paved the way for her to be a scholar at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
What started as a challenge for the female Ironman Riri Williams ended up as a secret project as Williams attempted to create her own prototype of Ironman Armor Model 41 using stolen material from her campus. When school security noticed her extracuricullar activities, she put on her armor and fled.
Furthermore, Riri Williams flew around the country in an effort to test her prototype suit. Riri ended up stopping a couple of inmates escaping from the New Mexico Penitentiary. Shortly, after learning of Riri's exploits she was visited by Tony Stark and endorses her desire to be the female Ironman.
However Marvel's move to launch Williams as a female Ironman has been at the very least controversial, not only because she will step into the shoes of Tony Stark but mostly because of her being black. However, Riri Williams is widely accepted for being a superhero of color. Critics and fans of the Marvel Universe praised Marvel's decision to have a superhero like Riri Williams.
Williams might be the first black female Marvel hero as she becomes the female Ironman but she is not the only superhero of color. Another beloved character, Spiderman, will be having a hero of color when Carlos Morales took on the mantle of everyone's favorite web slinger.
Marvel recently gave an update with regards to the female Ironman. Riri Williams will now be referred as Iron Heart which was coined by Joe Quesada. The name was suggested due to the fact that Tony Stark first put on the armor to save his heart.
