The 89th Academy Awards is fast approaching with only a few months left before it announces the winners for major categories. Both fans and experts are throwing up their predictions of who could possibly bag the Oscar 2017 trophy on February 26.
Winning from the highly-anticipated Oscar 2017 awards night or known as the Academy Awards is a status for many artists and to key persons in filmmaking. It is not a simple trophy, but recognition from the voting members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy Award of Merit statuette or known as Oscar is given to those who gave an excellent job in the film industry.
Like the previous Academy Awards, Oscar 2017 is expected to be full of surprises by giving recognitions to a rightful winner. According to The Week, the musical film "La La Land" directed by Damien Chazelle is predicted as a frontrunner for Best Picture category.
However, L.A. Times panelists predicted that other films can compete well with "La La Land" in Oscar 2017. The sci-fi movie "Arrival" starring Amy Adams is a good contender under the Best Picture category. Also, "Loving" directed by Jeff Nichols, "Manchester by the Sea" directed by Kenneth Lonergan and "Moonlight" directed by Barry Jenkins are other films that can give a good fight for Best Picture.
The predicted front-runners for Best Director category at Oscar 2017 are directors Kenneth Lonergan for "Manchester by the Sea" and Jeff Nichols for the movie "Loving." Also, director Damien Chazelle for "La La Land" is a great contender of Best Director category.
Oscar 2017 will also not be easy for Best Actor and Best Actress categories. Denzel Washington, the lead actor of "Fences" is the top pick by experts' prediction while Casey Affleck of the movie "Manchester by the Sea" is a good contender for the Best Actor spot, too.
In addition, others predicted that there is a chance that Denzel Washington can get two academy awards in Oscar 2017 - one for Best Supporting Actor, and one for Best Actor. If this happens, Denzel Washington will be the sixth artist who has won two Oscar awards for acting along with Katherine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson.
There is a big possibility that Emma Stone of "La La Land" can win the Best Actress category, considering that she recently won Best Actress at Venice Film Festival under the same film. But, this won't be an easy fight for Emma Stone, some critics say that Annette Bening of "20th Century Women" is a great contender in Oscar 2017.
Meanwhile, the predictions of possible winners in Oscar 2017 will continue until the nominations for the Academy Awards closes. The voting for Oscar nomination opens January 5, 2017 and will close on January 13, 2017. The final Oscar nominations announcement will be on January 24, 2017.
