Actor Johnny Depp has clearly established his acting credentials across numerous films, most notably as Captain Jack Sparrow in the highly-successful "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies. With all those acting experience under his belt, one would think that any role would be a breeze for the talented actor, even if it entails playing as the wizard Grindelwald of an upcoming "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" movies, a prequel to the famed wizarding series Harry Potter.
But no, Harry Potter fans think otherwise. Apparently, there is a fine line between a pirate and a wizard that must never be crossed. At least, as far as social media outpourings are concerned, Johnny Depp is fine as Pirates of the Carribean's Captain Jack Sparrow but must never be a "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them" wizard Grindelwald.
When Johnny Depp was cast as the wizard Grindelwald in the coming "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" movie, the uproar from Harry Potter fans was almost deafening. Apparently, they do not doubt the acting talent of the well-established actor but rather, they objected to his casting due to his alleged domestic abuse of his ex-wife Amber Heard, reports Daily Mail.
However, the director of the J.K. Rowling adaptation defended his choice of Johnny Depp for the Grindelwald role. According to David Yates, the actor was the perfect fit for the "Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them" dark wizard role.
Yates hinted at the fickle nature of public perception of actors saying that an actor could be a darling one moment but could face negative criticisms and public opinion before one knows it. However, the "Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them" director said that regardless of public perception, the one thing that people can't change is the actor's talent, which speaks volumes on his confidence and trust in Johnny Depp's impeccable acting skills.
In the upcoming "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" film, Johnny Depp as Grindelwald will only have a cameo appearance. But he will have a greater exposure in the coming movies of the series as the following movies will document the Grindewald's rise to power.
Harry Potter fans are excited about "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them 2" as it will feature the well-loved character Dumbledore. Fans will be able to watch the Eddie Redmayne-starrer "Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them" which releases this coming November 17, 2016.
