Techland Teaming With Warner Brothers For Survival Horror/Free Running Hybrid Dying Light

Warner Brothers and Dead Island developer Techland are teaming up for Dying Light, a survival horror title blending first-person action and free running.

This sandbox title will have players navigating an expansive South American inspired urban environment overrun by zombie like creatures.Dying Light features a day-night cycle in which different predators appear after sundown. These types are faster, stronger and have heightened senses. Outside of the infected, players will have to deal with non-infected foes like armed soldiers.

Like Dead Island, players can scavenge the world for supplies and weapons while using crafting as a way to defend against the infected population. In a demo presented to IGN, a player was able to attach a battery to a machete and create an electrified blade. The game will feature fast paced free running similar to EA's Mirror's Edge. Players will even be able to view the character's limbs as he or she tries to outrun enemies.

"Inventive free running mechanics also allow for nearly unrestricted exploration and weapon-crafting to further enhance the action survival experience," says Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka. "The next-gen technology allows us to create a truly dynamic open world that features a game-changing day-night cycle."

Multiple protagonist will appear in Dying Light and one of them will be infected with the virus that's caused the catastrophe. Techland hopes that a blend of dynamic and scripted events will push the narrative forward.

Kevin Kebodeaux, Senior Vice President of American Sales and Operations for WB Interactive, says in the video that the company was excited to team with Techland for Dying Light.

"The partnership with Techland allows us to combine their successful development capabilities with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's one-of-a-kind expertise to deliver on this title," Kebodeaux says.

Dying Light is planned for a 2014 release on all Sony and Microsoft's next generation systems as well as the Xbox360, Playstation 3 and PC. Expect more to be revealed during at this year's E3 in June.
