Fans of “Westworld” who have noticed Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) always painting may be wondering what happens to the masterpieces of the series’ self-aware robotic Host. On Wednesday, Jonathan Nolan, the co-creator and showrunner of “Westworld,” revealed to Redditors the answer after mattdezine, a Redditor, queried in an “Ask Me Anything” session what happens to all the paintings of Dolores.
Part of the regular narrative loop of Dolores is she stops by the river and paints the horses and landscape. However, since the storyline of the "Westworld" series has Dolores’ memory reset so often, it meant she had made hundreds or thousands of landscape sceneries without her realizing the numbers.
Unseen Footage
Business Insider reported that Nolan created a GIF which showed a footage that has never been broadcast to fans of the series. The GIF showed a park technician getting a pile of canvasses from a kitchen cupboard and flipping through the stack of completed paintings.
According to Slashfilm, there are about 10,950 paintings that are stored in the Abernathy farmhouse. The paintings were kept there presumably because the Hosts are programmed not to notice it. The footage seems to be from one of the three hours of the show’s first season that are unaired.
No Peeks On Future Episodes
Or it could be a deleted scene, likely from the pilot episode because Nolan would not likely share even a short clip from a future episode. It specifically was from the sequence where park technicians search the farmhouse after the father of Dolores discovered a modern photograph and suffered a meltdown.
“Westworld,” which was renewed for a second season, airs every Sunday. There are still four episodes left for season 1. Dolores and Maeve Milley (Thandie Newton) are reportedly gaining more consciousness of their memories. Arnold, a new name to the show who would be linked with Lowe, would also be introduced in future episodes.
