'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Release Date, News & Update: Character Exchange Between Fox's 'Deadpool' and Marvel's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2'. Who Are These Characters?

Recently, "Deadpool" and "Deadpool 2" writers Paul Wernicke and Rhett Reese spoke during a special screening and Q&A for "Deadpool" that there was a secret character trade between Fox and Marvel that actually occurred last year. The trade was between the two films "Deadpool" and "'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2." According to the writers, the characters were "Deadpool's" Negasonic Teenage Warhead and "'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's" Ego The Living Planet.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been divided between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox Studios. Marvel and Fox own rights to a different number of Marvel characters and titles. Marvel Studio owns "Guardians of the Galaxy" titles while Fox owns "Deadpool" titles. While Wernicke and Reese were going through the list of 400 superheroes under the 20th Century Fox ownership, Negasonic Teenage Warhead's name just jumped out.

Wernicke spoke that he doesn't care what her powers are but she surely is going to be in the movie. The choice would most likely be because of the name Negasonic Teenage Warhead itself. The name is cool but borderline ridiculous and would definitely fit around the humor of the movie "Deadpool." The character Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her name did play a very humorous part as seen in the blockbuster hit. This decision by "Deadpool's" writers eventually helped James Gunn, the director of "'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

Wernicke and Reese wanted to change essentially everything about Negasonic Teenage Warhead but her name. They even gave her different set of explosive powers. In the comics, she was psychic. Because of that, they had to get Marvel Studio's permission to make the drastic changes, initiating a character swap. Marvel requested rights for the character Ego, The Living Planet in return which they need for the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

Ego, The Living Planet is essential for the upcoming movie "'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." Ego is Peter Quill or Star Lord's father. Ego, The Living Planet will be played by Kurt Russel.

James Gunn, director of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" stated that when he pitched for the character Ego, The Living Planet to be Star Lord's father, he thought Marvel owned the rights to the character. He had already worked out a very elaborate story between Star Lord and Ego when he learned they did not have the rights to the character. He had no back-up plan. He was thankful that Fox came to them and made the trade.

The cast members will be reprising their roles for the upcoming film. Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora; Dave Bautista as Drax, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Michael Rooker as Yondu and Sean Gunn as Kraglin will be back for "Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.2". New cast members will be joining as well, such as Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan and of course, Kurt Russell as Eco The Living Planet.

With Awesome Mixtape #2 playing in the background, the "Guardians of the Galaxy" team will go on another adventure as they discover the truth about Peter Quill's father. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
