Kickstarters To Watch Out For: Pixel Press, Quintet for Android, AR-K

Kickstarter has been a wonderful place to jump start projects that would otherwise never see the light of day. From Ouya to the Veronica Mars movie, projects that failed to get funding the old fashioned way have found new life on the crowd funding platform. In an attempt to uncover some of the more interesting projects on the site here are three of the best projects looking for funding right now. All projects are currently short of their goal and still need some bidders before their time is up.

Pixel Press

Ever want to turn a drawing into a full out video game platformer? Well Pixel Press lets would be game designers do just that. Using just a piece of paper and an iPad, Pixel Press lets users turn their drawings into a full-fledge platformer video games.

The idea came about as a way to encourage kids to consider working in the game developer field. It lets amateur developers draw out a level designs on a piece of paper, take a picture of the design and even test it on iOS devices.

Pledging money to the project will let the developers behind Pixel Press continue to work on the tool and release it later this year. Those who give money have the chance to receive items such as having their own built level used as a sample design and an invite to the Pixel Press launch party.

AR-K

Fans of point-and-click adventures rejoice. AR-K is a point-and-click adventure set in a floating space utopia. The game series sees players taking on the role of Alicia a cop-turned-journalist who wakes up from a Hangover-esque night out to become wrapped up in a mystery involving an ambiguous Golden Sphere.

Developer Gato Salvaje Studios touts the series as offering a mix of mystery, adventure, and humor. To script the episodic adventure the studio brought on comic book writer Greg Rucka. Rucka's writing resume includes working on titles such as Wonder Woman, Elektra and Wolverine.

Funding the project will give players access to collectors editions of the title, signed scripts and full access to all four episodes of the series. Those interested in testing out the series before donating can check out the first episode of the series for free on iOS, Android, PC and Macs. If the game gets enough funding the series will be able to finish its run for each platform and adapt the series for other languages.

Quintet for Android

Quintet is a co-op party game that lets gamers play five different roles aboard a starship in battle. Players take on the role of the Captain, Helm, Tactical, Engineering and Science squad members. Each player has to work to gather to help manage their ship during a space battle. The game lets players take on their defined roles and pretend they are on the Starship Enterprise.

The game is currently available for Mac, Windows, Web, and iOS. Quintet's Kickstarter started so the developer could bring it to Android systems. The game quickly reached its goal and introduced a stretch goal to port the game to the Ouya.

Givers to the Quintet for Android Kickstarter have the chance to receive a variety of buttons and a shout out on the games website. Gamers can pledge anywhere from $1 to over $275 for the project.
