'System Shock' News and Updates: Developer Nightdive Studios Announced That the Game Won't Be Released Until 2018

Nightdive Studios was able to raise over $1.3 million on Kickstarter in an attempt to get "System Shock" back to life for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, it seems that fans will have to wait a little longer to get their hands on the game.

Originally set for release on December 2017, the developer announced that "System Shock" will not be launched until the second quarter of 2018, according to Game Informer. During the project's update this month, Nightdive Studios announced the delay of the game.

Nightdive Studios said that they are not sure if it's going to be a simultaneous launch on all platforms but they will do the best that they can. They also released a new piece of concept art for the "System Shock".

"System Shock" is a space-based role playing game released in 1994. It is set on a space station in the year 2072. Assuming the role of a nameless hacker, the player attempts to hinder the plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence called SHODAN.

Originally announced as "System Shock Remastered", Nightdive Studios decide to go with the original name "System Shock". This is because developers feel that the new version of the game is, indeed, a reboot, and not a remastered version of the original 1994 version.

Nightdive plans to fund the development of "System Shock" through a Kickstarter campaign that started on June 28, 2016 with a goal of $900,000. Including the Kickstarter campaign, the studio released a free demo featuring an early build of the first level of the game, exhibiting their efforts on the project which was meant to "demonstrate their commitment and passion" to faithfully reboot the game.

As of July 28, 2016, the studio's campaign has been successfully funded. While most "System Shock" fans are eagerly awaiting the game's release, those who funded the game through Kickstarter can't help but feel disappointed at the delay. Nevertheless, Nightdive studios have assured its backers that the game will be released, but they just need more time.
