After Chuck dealt his brother the ultimate betrayal in the heartbreaking finale of “Better Call Saul” last season, many of the show’s followers are left wondering how their relationship will move on from there. Recently, series creators Peter Gould and Vince Gilligan shed some light on Chuck’s character and what it represents.
Gould and Gilligan are aware of “Better Call Saul” fans’ open dislike for Chuck (Michael McKean) but explained that there is more to the character than his manipulative ways. According to Gilligan, just like real people, Chuck wears not a black nor white hat but a gray hat. As in real life bad guys who think of themselves as good guys, he thinks the same. And, just like everyone, Chuck has his reasons for what he did.
Gilligan went on further to explain that Chuck wanted to maintain his passion for justice and the legal system. It now becomes clear that Chuck’s intention for his betrayal in the last season of “Better Call Saul” was to keep the legal system away from the machinations of Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk). According to Gilligan, it greatly pained Chuck seeing his own brother besmirching the rule of law.
With that, it is now hard to say whether Chuck is really the bad guy between the two brothers since Jimmy also has his own faults. It also gives fans an idea to where “Better Call Saul” Season 3 is headed and that is the showdown between the McGill brothers says an IGN report. Fans are also speculating what happens to Jimmy’s taped confession that included his admission to tampering documents and bribing the stork clerk who made copies of the documents. Most fans think that Chuck will use it to his advantage.
Speculations even go as far as suggesting that whatever Chuck will do to further antagonize Jimmy, it will only lead to Jimmy’s much anticipated transformation to Saul Goodman. Odenkirk had already teased that “Better Call Saul” Season 3 is when the innocence of Jimmy will be slowly stripped away reports Vine Report.
“Better Call Saul” Season 3 filming is currently ongoing in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The new season is expected to air on 2017.
