As previously reported, "The Get Down" Season 2 is currently in production, as confirmed by its executive producer Baz Luhrmann in an interview with the New York Daily News. Producer Nelson George also shut down rumors and speculations that the show was going to be canceled because of poor ratings and performance against other Netflix shows.
In fact, Netflix gave its commitment to go all out for its shows, particularly its original content. Deadline previously reported that Netflix's chief operating officer Ted Sarandos said Netflix is well able to invest heavily in shows such as "The Get Down" Season 2 in order to further its vision to be a "destination" rather than a mere online streaming site for cable shows.
What to expect from 'The Get Down' Season 2
As previously reported, "The Get Down" Season 2 will be doing a time jump to the 1980s. According to Nelson George, doing a time jump would allow the musical show to do homages to the likes of Prince and Michael Jackson, and navigate the underbelly of the Bronx as the increasing proliferation of crack begins to seep into their neighborhood.
