Walmart backs up November release for PlayStation 4

We've seen a fair bit from Sony's next-gen PlayStation 4: what's under the hood, some exclusive games the library will offer, the controller, etc. But we've yet to get an exact release date for the console, just a three month window. There are plenty of retailers who have pegged their own dates to keep their customers informed, one of which just happens to be the biggest retailer in the world - Walmart. Surely they have some kind of an idea of when the consoles coming right?

Like a few other businesses, Walmart has pegged November as the month when the console will hit store shelves. According to the retailer giant's item description on the listing for the console, "The PS4 console will ship free on release date this November."

Granted, it's a shipping date, and not an exact one at that, but it's roughly the same time when Microsoft's Xbox One will release, according to Microsoft's official announcement. Given that, a November release makes sense, especially when you consider the biggest shopping day in the US, Black Friday, takes place in November, the same logic that fed rumored release dates for both consoles long before either was formally announced. Though, at the same time, there's also a note on the same page saying, "Preorder this item today and it should ship on 12/31/2013," so go figure.

Dutch retailer Media Markt made a similar guestimation, saying the PS4 would hit on November 13th. Amazon is still waiting on an official announcement from Sony, which we should get at Gamescom. According to Fergal Gara, VP & Managing Director at SCE UK and Ireland, the August trade show would be the time and place to finally reveal the console's date of arrival.

Whenever it does get here, the PlayStation 4 will cost $399. GameStop is no longer selling pre-orders for the system, so best try elsewhere for now.
