Sky Gamblers: Cold War - Anybody remember Iron Maiden’s Aces High? [REVIEW]

As far as iOS titles are concerned, you will find out that I'm not very prone to playing anything that's related to skies and planes. However, Sky Gamblers: Cold War was an extremely rare exception, and I'm happy I made it.

To be very truthful, there's a bit of a leaning you'll have to do before you actually take on the game and decide to spend some serious time with it. Sky Gamblers: Cold War, true to its words, offers extensive single player campaign and a huge set of multiplayer modes.

There is also the option of going back in time to be part of unwritten history and covert operations. While all that may sound really impressive, they don't even form the most important aspect of the game - the inclusion of a quick start button. The quick start button supports quick, casual, online play by making it simpler than ever to jump in to a game. This is something I would love to find in other dedicated multiplayer titles.

Players have the option of creating games and scenarios, including private matches with friends present in the Game Center. You're sure to find matches whenever and wherever you want due to the fluid matchmaking capability.

While my multiplayer was hooked on via a home Wi-Fi connection, we are still waiting to find out as to how well the game can do when played over a cellular connection. If going by the word of a friend of mine (with potentially endless cellular data all the time), then the game plays out the same without any real issue of slowdown when inside a match.

While in a match, be prepared to always be somebody's target. Of course, there are objective based modes present in the game that only ask you to wreck bases and nothing else, but those are different. Apart from them, most of the time you will target other planes, or avoid enemy fire as a target yourself. Pay to unlock customization options and unlock all planes that can be otherwise unlocked via the normal gameplay are offered for those willing to shell out the money.

As stated earlier, you need to learn a bit before really getting into game. Sadly, nobody else was around to tell me that when I started off with it. As a result, I was either shot down by someone or crashed myself. All this was happening at the start of a 12-level campaign in the single-player mode of the game. I got better along the way though.

Although the single-player modes are quite impressive, what really binds the title together is its multiplayer aspect, where players can also earn XP for unlocks. The game's graphics on an iPhone makes the experience worth every penny spent.

The game already offers default accelerometer settings that are utilized within the game, and there might be some seriously mixed reactions from gamers on that department. Although the default settings makes speed and weapons management easy as pie, it requires some patience.

Sky Gamblers: Cold War offers a virtual joystick as well for those with different playing capabilities. It's up to you if you prefer an external or internal view for the game, but whichever you pick, this game is the real deal (just like Iron Maiden). Check out the trailer below to see for yourself.
