Actress Evan Rachel Wood admitted to having been raped twice in the past. An open letter detailing about the violations committed against her was shared on her Twitter account, after the story was first published on Rolling Stone.
The 29-year-old actress who portrayed the character of Dolores Abernathy on a science fiction TV series, the "Westworld," said on her open letter that the rape incidents in the past had a huge impact on why she attempted to take out her own life when she was still 22.
"Yes, I have been raped. By a significant other while we were together," Wood said on her tweet, "And on a separate occasion, by the owner of a bar," she continued, adding that on the second occasion that she was raped, she though that she should have fought, but was scared. Wood believed it was her fault when the second rape happened.
But because it happened in the past, she embraces the principle that it should still be spoken about. She encouraged, through her open letter, rape victims to talk about the violations against them especially that we do not live "in a time where people can stay silent."
While motivating victims of rape to fight back and speak about it, Wood has hit the headlines recently for her role in HBO's "Westworld," where she was subjected to violence. In defending her character, she told The Hollywood Reporter that although she abhors "gratuitous violence against women," she would have the patience to have the context wherein the violence is being taken advantage of. As the "Westworld" progresses in its story, how the violence was used depicts about the humanity and the reasons why such violence is entertaining and epidemic.
In 2011, Evan Rachel Wood admitted to being a bisexual. She married Jamie Bell in 2012 and after almost two years of marriage, Wood announced their separation. She has a son with Bell in 2013.
