Twenty co-workers from an auto parts plant in Portland, Tennessee have won the Powerball Jackpot on Tuesday. The colleagues will be splitting a whopping $420.9 million and they are planning to help more people with the money they will get.
The winners hail from 13 different towns in Kentucky and Tennessee and are workers under the North American Stamping Group. Their winning ticket bagged all six Powerball Jackpot numbers drawn over the weekend and was bought by Amy O'Neal, who resides in Lafayette. She didn't get the chance to check the ticket that she bought for the group on Saturday and went straight to bed.
O'Neal told The Tennessean that when her husband and son told her about the winning Powerball Jackpot ticket that was purchased somewhere in the Lafayette area, she was shocked. "I just started screaming. I had to look again, I thought I was in a dream," she explained.
According to O'Neal, the Powerball Jackpot winning group calls themselves "The Tennessee 20." During Wednesdays and Saturdays, they purchase $120 worth of tickets so they can help the state's various projects, including education.
Each of the Powerball Jackpot winners will receive over $12.7 million before taxes and according to Steve Huffman, one of the lucky workers, they are looking forward to helping more people. "All these people have always had a heart to help people and be there for people," Huffman said of his colleagues. The 54-year-old added, "We can do that if we don't have any money. Now we can do more and help more. There's going to be a lot of people blessed."
The Powerball Jackpot numbers were announced Tuesday, November 29 by the Tennessee Lottery officials. The numbers are as follows: 17-19-21-37-44; Powerball, 16; Power Play, 2.
With the lucky numbers won, the Powerball Jackpot will now fall back to a $40 million estimate. The cash value for the said jackpot prize is $24.2 million.
