TV network The CW has always been known for its gritty aspirations. From its blood-drenching, luscious characters of the "The Vampire Diaries'" Mystic Falls to its gasp-inducing scenes from the now-concluded "Gossip Girl," the network has never shied away from beefing up the vampishness of its shows. And as the folks from the former are already in its last season, the firm is now jazzing up the next entry in its combined world — welcome, "Riverdale."
To spicy things up for "Riverdale," The CW has released the official promo which evidently screams "Gossip Girl" and "The Vampire Diaries," sans the fangs, of course. As such, the exclusive promo is a revelation in itself as to what the viewers are about to see in the forthcoming series.
Based on the Archie Comics, "Riverdale" is set in the present day and will follow Archie (KJ Apa) along with other characters from the source material such as Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse), Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes) and Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart). Meanwhile, the Greg Berlanti- produced drama will be introducing the characters during their sophomore year in high school while solving a murder mystery.
According to Archie Comics' chief creative officer and "Riverdale's" executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, "It's definitely Archie, but a little darker, a little more complex and a little weirder than you might remember from the digest you bought at the supermarket." Aguirre-Sacasa has added, "We're saying it's a little bit like Archie meets Twin Peaks."
In a true The CW style, the "Riverdale" promo has teased Archie in a glorious physique along with the show's permeating themes like partying and the omnipresent high-school drama. The teaser has also revealed the tragic death of "high school golden boy" Jason Blossom, which will evidently drive the show's mysterious aspirations. "Riverdale" is set to premiere on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2016 at 9PM on The CW.
