'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date, News & Updates: BBC Releases New Darker Trailer; Here's Everything You Need To Know!

The quick "Sherlock" season 4 teaser showed Sherlock Holmes played by Benedict Cumberbatch and Dr. John Watson played by Martin Freeman sitting in their 221B Baker Street apartment. What's odd about the scene is the floor was flooded to the ankle with Sherlock's things floating around.

"Sherlock" season 3 ended with Sherlock Holmes' exile after a murder of a man. Just after his plane took off, he was summoned back when Jim Moriarty reappeared.

"Sherlock" season 4 marks the return of unpredictable Sherlock Homes on British soil. Dr. Watson and Mary, played by Amanda Abbington, are facing their biggest challenge yet, parenthood. Back on the scene of course is Sherlock Holmes' arch-nemesis Jim Moriarty.

Photos of the "Sherlock" season 4 set and behind the scenes have circulated. The most notable, adorable and humorous is that of Sherlock Holmes, Dr. John Watson, Mary and the new. Uncle Sherlock giving the baby that confused-grumpy look.

"Sherlock" season 4 will surely be darker than the previous season. It has been described to be devastating with emotional upheaval. Sherlock and John will be forced to face consequences.

The first episode of "Sherlock" season 4, "The Six Thatchers" will be loosely based on the Doyle story The Adventure Of The Six Napoleons. It generally revolves around Lestrade and busts of French military leaders destroyed in search of a hidden pearl.

The second episode titled, "the Lying detective" Toby Jones will guest star in "Sherlock" season 4 as Culverton Smith, one of Sherlock's greatest enemies. It may be adapted from "The Adventure Of The Dying Detective."

Basing from the original story, Culverton Smith is devious and knowledgeable of tropical diseases, which he uses to try and kill Sherlock. Sherlock pretended to be infected and dying to catch Culverton Smith red handed.

Pictures of Tom Hiddleston with "Sherlock" Stars Mark Gatiss and Amanda Abbington during the Sand Diego Comic Con circulated creating speculations that he may be the third Holmes brother in "Sherlock" Season 4.

The Sherlock panel threw away the name "Sherrinford" as a clue for "Sherlock" Season 4. Hypothetically, Sherrinford is the eldest among Sherlock ad Mycroft Holmes. "Sherlock" season 3's finale teased a third sibling, which Mycroft referred to as "the other one"

"Sherlock" Season 4 will air on BBC January 1, 2017 in the UK. It airs as part of PBS' Masterpiece in the US.
