Rockstar provides samples of GTA 5 soundtrack, stands at over 20 hours of music

Playing through Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, I can recall waiting to get out of my vehicle to start a mission until the song that was playing was over. There was a great variety of tracks, so I had no problem switching the dial to a different station to find something different I could still enjoy. But in Grand Theft Auto 4, the tracks seemed a bit more repetitive than in past games. Thankfully, it looks like everyone playing Grand Theft Auto 5 won't be having that particular problem.

It seems like the leak that showed us some of the songs that would be featured in GTA 5 was just the tip of the iceberg, and that the game will have a lot more music than we first suspected. In the leak, 92 tracks were mentioned, but that's a little over a third of all the music in the game.

Rolling Stone had a small feature on the game's soundtrack, where it was revealed that the game would have a whopping 240 songs in all, outnumbering the number of songs from soundtracks of all other games in the franchise.

According to Rockstar's soundtrack supervisor, Ivan Pavlovich, the game has, "15 radio stations, two talk radio stations, 240 licensed songs, and somewhere in the proximity of 20 movies worth of score. It's the largest soundtrack that we've done, and the largest score that we've done."

The leak was a nice peek, but the whole thing has a slew of different genres that make up the entire west coast music scene from the past and contemporary, everything from N.W.A. and Fear to Britney Spears and Outkast. Popular musicians of today and yesteryear also play host for the stations as DJs: Pam Grier, Kenny Loggins, Bootsy Collins, Jesco White, and more.

Rockstar recently took to SoundCloud to share some of the game's tracks, some of which were in the leak, and others that weren't. You can check out the Rockstar SoundCloud here.

Beyond the game's soundtrack, Rockstar has confirmed there will be multiple endings, and the story will be about the same length as Red Dead Redemption, at about 25 - 30 hours, and that's before the massive amount of secondary things to do, or release of the obligatory DLC, so this should be a monster of a game.

Grand Theft Auto V is out on September 17 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
