'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' Replaces Cirque du Soleil

Variety stated that "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is a mixed sequel focused on the seven novels written by J.K. Rowling. The show is expected to be as successful as "Hamilton.

"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" showing at Lyric Theater is a huge advantage for the U.K.-based Ambassador Theater Group, which acquired the New York theater in 2013. In London, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" garnered much praise from critics and won the top award for play at the Evening Standards.

Lyric Theater is currently showing "Paramour" by Cirque du Soleil, which will continue until April 2017. Scott Zeiger, chief executive of the theatrical division of Cirque du Soleil, said that they were made a great offer and were incentivized to move. Renovations will follow which will lower the seating capacity from 1,900 to 1,500.

Changing the Lyric Theater for 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child'

New York Times wrote that ATG was prepared to spend millions of dollars to build a theater within the Lyric Theater, designed to meet the exact specifications of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." They were looking for an intimate but big enough venue that provided low-priced seats around the house.

The theater will be reconfigured to tailor-fit "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." The spacious front of house environment will be altered to optimize the atmosphere and audience experience.

Sonia Friedman will serve as producer of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," together with Colin Callender and author J.K. Rowling. Director John Tiffany and playwright Jack Thorne wrote the script with Rowling.

The renowned author shared that she was delighted that they are one step closer to bringing "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" to Broadway and very excited by the proposals. The cast members and show dates have yet to be announced.
