Tekken Revolution a possibility for Xbox One

Despite having plans for its own free-to-play fighter coming to the next-gen console, it seems like Microsoft is open to more, similarly structured fighters for the Xbox One. At least, that seems to be what Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada figures.

Harada was asked as much at the Tokyo Games Show, telling Eurogamer, "The circumstances have changed a bit. It seems they've [Microsoft] opened up to that model since Xbox One, and after we released the PlayStation Network beta they were kind of nervous and expressed an interest. We don't have concrete plans, but there's a possibility that we'll do it in the future."

Harada had considered the idea of bringing Tekken Revolution over to Microsoft before, but apparently the company wasn't interested. When fans asked him about it via Tiwtter earlier this summer, Harada said only, "Ask Microsoft yourself. I already asked them about free to play of the console last year."

In the mean time, Tekken x Street Fighter is still in the midst of development, but when asked, Harada didn't offer any specifics on details, or a possible release date, saying, only, "We do have assets created and some of the materials. It's just that we're looking at the circumstances and what direction people are going in, what platform as there's a change in the market. I'm thinking long term about that."

Despite having plans own free-to-play fighter, a shiny new revamp on the acclaimed Killer Instinct, Microsoft's reconsideration for Tekken Revolution is no doubt the result of eying the success the fighter has had since debuting in June. The game was quick to hit a million downloads, and updates to the game and its ever increasing roster have served to bolster more people to play the game, turning it into one of the summer's hit games. More plans are in place to ensure the game continues its popularity, such as a brand new character, never before seen in any other Tekken title.

The game's success has no doubt spurred developer Namco Bandai to go the free-to-play route with another of its acclaimed fighters,SoulCalibur. The free-to-play version of the game, SoulCalibur: Lost Swords, was officially revealed earlier this month.

While Microsoft seems more open according to Harada, it remains to be seen if Revolution will ever cross over to the Redmond giant's next-gen platform.
