"Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9 is interesting as it gave fans a peek into Steven's distant past, back when he was still a baby. While the latest installation is indeed entertaining, its passing seem to have confirmed previous speculations of another hiatus.
'Steven Universe' Season 4 Episode 9 - Three Gems and a Baby
"Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9, which released last December 1, 2016 turns back the time and revealed what happened to Steven during his first winter. Caring for a baby is no easy task especially for Greg who had no idea how to raise a human child. The episode is crucial in that it will define what Steven is as far as the Gems are concerned.
Greg was still distraught just having lost Rose in that flashback "Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9. Fortunately, the three Gems came for a visit with each one bringing a gift for the child. Apparently, even the Gems themselves are quite confused as to what baby Steven really is especially when the gem in baby Steven's stomach emitted a ray of light.
And thus began the speculations in "Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9 regarding Steven's identity. Pearl was under the conviction that Rose was trapped inside the baby's body and needs help in extracting. Meanwhile, both Amethyst and Garnet were under the impression that the baby was just Rose trying to transform to her original form. It was only Greg who was actually convinced that Steven is just a human baby, getting his book to seek explanation for Steven's glowing.
However, the three Gems kidnapped Steven and escaped in a van. When their efforts to show the baby how to shape shift failed in "Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9, they had to finally accept that Steven has no connection with Rose.
'Steven Universe' Season 4 On a Hiatus?
Previously, there were reports that the show will undergo another round of hiatus. Some are even suggesting the possibility that "Steven Universe" Season 4 could be facing cancellation due to the very low ratings of its episodes.
Recent developments, or it lack thereof, seem to confirm some of the rumors, at least on the hiatus part. At the moment, there is no listed episode after the recently aired "Steven Universe" Season 4 Episode 9 in the Next Episode site, with a small explanation being given that the show could be either in vacation or waiting for the start of another season.
