The Last Guardian coming to PlayStation 4?

With the PS3 fading to make room for the PS4, so too do the chances for heralded games to appear on it, including the fabled Last Guardian. A changing of the guard is in order.

Any and all information involving Sony's The Last Guardian has been a long time coming, but for months now, there's been little if anything to go on. Up until recently at least. The game's like a mythical beast, only rumored to exist, with only scant few members of the public ever bothering to come forward and admit its existence.

With the PlayStation 3 seemingly ever fading from the limelight, set to be replaced by Sony's PlayStation 4, the at this point mythic The Last Guardian ever gracing the console seems like a lost cause. In all liklihood, it seems far more reasonable that the game will wind up on Sony's next-gen system, if at all, something that Sony Worldwide President, Shuhei Yoshida, recently seemed to confirm with GamesIndustry International.

When asked if the game was still under development, Yoshida responded, "Yeah, in this building!" This was good to hear, especially after last we checked, Jack Tretton told GameTrailers over the summer that the game was officially "on hiatus." However, Yoshida recently said this was something of a miscommunication, saying, "He used that term, and I said no, hiatus is misleading. It was a hiatus in terms of releasing new information. The game has never stopped - the team has always been here. They're going through the re-engineering of the game, so the team size is smaller, because it's more engineering focused right now."

Interesting word choice there, "re-engineering." Like perhaps being re-engineered for a PS4 release? It certainly seems possible, but Yoshida isn't offering any clarification, telling GI that he "cannot talk about" exactly what platform the game would wind up being released on.

However, he did say that Sony is "waiting for the right time to re-introduce The Last Guardian in an appropriate way. I can't... Well, the game is in development, and it's well staffed, and Ueda-san is here, working - even though he's not a Sony employee, he's dedicated to the product. But we're not ready to update yet."

Granted, it's not much of an update, but it's better than nothing. We'll keep you updated as any more information becomes available.
