'Aquaman' Latest News & Updates: Film Finally Bags an Official Release Date; Jason Momoa Talks How His Own Life Story Relates to His Character

"Aquaman" has finally received a release date from Warner Bros. The water-powered hero will splash into the big screens on the fourth quarter of 2018. Featuring Jason Momoa as the King of Atlantis, the movie is expected to give fans a closer look at the DC Extended Universe.

Deadline confirms that "Aquaman" will make its big screen debut on October 5, 2018. The James Wan film is the standalone franchise for Jason Momoa's Aquaman, who was featured briefly in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice earlier this year.

Fans have been waiting for the news to arrive ever since Warner Bros. announced that "Aquaman" will be given his solo franchise. Though not as popular in the cinematic realm as other big DC heroes, his featurette in "Batman V Superman" proved of interest to many viewers. Aquaman has a solid fan base in the comic book universe and it is expected that more support for the film will pour in as the release date approaches.

Meanwhile, actor Jason Momoa recently shared his thoughts on how he relates to the superhero. "Aquaman" is considered as an outcast in the DCEU and Momoa revealed that he is somehow the same in real life. According to Cinema Blend, the "Game of Thrones" star explained that he actually identifies closely with the notorious sea king.

"How I identify with that is kind of being...a bit of an outcast. You see, he wasn't really too accepted...I wasn't too accepted. There weren't any races where I grew up. There's no Chinese, no Mexican, no Black...[I] just wasn't accepted on the local side by some people because I wasn't raised in Hawaii. I identify as being that outcast and not really fitting into two different worlds," he revealed. The outlet notes that Jason Momoa's deep connection with Aquaman makes him the perfect choice for the role.

Arthur Curry and Aquaman are two personas in one. Aquaman's struggles at sea and on land seem to mirror Jason Momoa's issues as an outcast while growing up in Iowa.

"Aquaman" also stars Willem Dafoe as Nuidis Vulko and Amber Heard as Mera. Stay tuned for more updates!
