Although there are no confirmed reports yet, Julie Plec has promised the viewers of giving a strong Elena presence in the series.

Julie Plec in an interview expressed that the role of Nina Dobrev in the "Vampire Diaries" is very crucial in maintaining the momentum of the series, and without her character would be a devastation, Digital Spy reports.
