'FIFA 2017' Latest News & Update: Russian MPs Accuses Game Franchise Of Gay Propaganda; EA Tweets Cryptic Message

Russian Members of Parliament have accused "FIFA 2017" video game of promoting gay propaganda. The Russian MPs have asked the state communications oversight agency to do not let it pass and to take an action against the video game.

The LGBT group has recently promoted the Rainbow laces campaign, which EA Sports supported through its "FIFA 2017" game. Russian MPs has taken EA's move of supporting the LGBT community as promoting gay propaganda, which the Russian law states can "harm children's health and development."

According to The Guardian, the Rainbow Laces campaign was started by the UK-based LGBT rights group Stonewall last month. The campaign targets to end the homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in football. EA Sports backed this campaign by offering a free download of rainbow-colored uniforms in "FIFA 2017," which already expired last November 28.

Russia has an archaic law in 2013 which banned any discussion of non-traditional sexual relations that claims it can lead to a negative impact on children's health and development. The Communist MPs have sent a complaint letter to the state communications oversight agency complaining EA's "FIFA 2017."

United Russia MP Irina Rodnina, a former figure skater Olympic gold medallist said that the Russia should "verify the possibility of distributing this game on the territory of the Russian Federation." She explained that every state has its own internal laws that everyone should obey.

According to NZHerald, Communist MP Valery Rashkin told the Russian newspaper Izvestia that the authorities should conduct an investigation. He said that EA Canada should "introduce changes to the programming code or the age classification of this information product." Russian MPs suggested that if EA refuses, "Fifa 2017" should be banned.

Meanwhile, EA did not comment on the issue of gay propaganda on its game "FIFA 2017." However, EA posted a cryptic message on its Twitter account saying that "EA is proud to be named by the Human Rights Campaign as one of the best places to work for LGBTQ employees."
