Ricki Lake made a special cameo appearance during the "Hairspray Live!" on Wednesday at NBC. Meanwhile, the 60s inspired soundtrack of "Hairspray Live!" could now be listened via Spotify, iTunes or any online retailers.
According to People, three Tracy Turnblads are better than one. The 48 year old actress Ricki Lake who got the lead role in the 1988 from John Walter film together with Marissa Jaret Winokur who played the same role in the Broadway show in 2002 appeared during Wednesday's "Hairspray Live!" on NBC.
Wednesday's "Hairspray Live!" with the theme "Welcome to the '60s" gave the newcomer Maddie Baillo a warm welcome by Lake and Winokur in the scene. Maddie Baillo is the most fortunate woman who was selected out of nearly 1,000 open call auditions to become the iconic Tracy Turnblad. The scene portrays Tracy Turnblad dragging her mom Edna who was suffering from agoraphobia to Mr. Pinky, a plus-size fashion boutique owner.
The "Hairspray" Revival marked the way for Winokur and Fierstein to meet for the first time to which both of them won the Tony Award for their respective parts. Before the live broadcast was aired, producer Neil Meron shared a behind-the-scenes photo which allowed fans to peek at the wardrobe of Winokur ahead of time.
On the other hand, the 60s inspired soundtrack of "Hairspray Live!" has been released although the soundtrack is not the actual live versions according to E News. However, fans of the show could listen a lot of excellent tracks from Maddie Baillio who will be playing Tracy Turnblad and her costar Ephram Skyes who will be playing as Seaweed.
The soundtrack also includes a powerhouse duet between stars Jennifer Hudson and Ariana Grande. Ariane Grande said that the message of the song is what people need right now. It talks about how far people go, but there is still a need for them to go farther and this message should be heard in a fun way through music.
