'The Last of Us 2' Release Date, News & Update: Expected in 2018; Trailer Focuses On Ellie

"The Last of Us 2" has officially been confirmed by developer Naughty Dog during the recently held PlayStation Experience 2106. Fans are excited already to grab the title but they will have to wait a little longer as it won't be out soon.

According to reports, "The Last of Us 2" is expected to launch sometime in 2018. There is no specific date yet so fans will have to keep waiting for the schedule, which is expected to surface soon. It has also been announced that the game will be PlayStation 4 exclusive.

Aside from those tidbits of information that were revealed, Naughty Dog also released a trailer to give fans a sneak peek of what is in store for all the gamers. The main focus of the video is none other than an adult version of Ellie. In "The Last of Us 2" promo, Ellie is seen strumming a guitar and singing a soulful tune. But she isn't in a dreamy place. Instead, she is surrounded by corpses. Blood is also dripping from her head and she is bruised and covered in blood all over.

Joel then appears in the frame and asks 19-year old Ellie if she will push through her plans. Ellie answers, "I'm gonna find and I'm gonna kill every last one of them." Nothing is confirmed yet but fans speculate that only Ellie is alive in "The Last of Us 2" while Joel is just a figment of Ellie's memory. The second installment of the game will basically be about a vengeful protagonist who seeks to bring justice.

"The Last of Us 2" will also be packed with new storylines that are expected to be more adventurous and thrilling. Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann said through his Twitter account that he will be working alongside new writer Halley Gross, who is actually one of the writers for the HBO series "Westworld."
