Nintendo Switch News, Updates & Specs: Nintendo GameCube Games Coming To The Switch? Find Out More Here!

At this point, it's safe to say that everyone is really excited about the upcoming Nintendo Switch, and the way it's going to change console and handheld gaming forever. People are already stoked for the ability to play new console-quality games wherever and however they want; in fact, a good idea for it would be to catch up with the past decade of console games on the Switch. And Nintendo may already be ahead of the curve by introducing old Nintendo GameCube games on the Switch by its release, according to some rumors.

According to TechnoBuffalo, a Eurogamer source is claiming that Nintendo is already preparing three old Nintendo GameCube games as ports for the Nintendo Switch via the Virtual Console service. The rumors are saying that Nintendo GameCube classics "Super Mario Sunshine," "Luigi's Mansion," "Super Smash Bros. Melee," and "Animal Crossing" are in the running for the big Switch release. It's unknown as of yet whether Nintendo will take player feedback on which old GameCube games they'll rerelease for the Switch.

However, these old GameCube games won't be available for the Nintendo Switch right off the bat. The Philippine Daily Inquirer reports that players will have to pay an upgrade fee to get GameCube games on the Virtual Console. This shouldn't be much of a hassle for anyone who's already buying a Switch, though.

Nintendo's Virtual Console already supports games for the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, the Nintendo DS, and the Wii. The GameCube really is the only thing left for the Virtual Console to emulate, other than perhaps Wii U games, which probably won't happen until a few more years down the line. The Nintendo Switch is targeted for release in March 2017. Stay tuned to GamenGuide for more updates and information on the upcoming console.
