Highest Paid Football Player In The World? It’s Not Cristiano Ronaldo Or Lionel Messi But Ezequiel Lavezzi

In football, the best players doesn't necessarily mean they're the highest paid. Take Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for example.

Cristiano Ronaldo is paid €21M ($22M) per year after his contract renewal with Real Madrid which is valid until 2020, and Lionel Messi is currently negotiating his renewal which might put him on top of Ronaldo's. This means that Ronaldo is paid around $459K every week while Messi is believed to be currently paid at $339K per week. Meanwhile, Ezequiel Lavezzi is paid a whopping $619K per week, far ahead of Ronaldo and Messi's rates.

The Argentinian forward joined Chinese league Hebei China Fortune early this year from Paris Saint Germain. Hebei China Fortune is Chinese League's seventh most valuable football team and a team value of $90M. There were already reports of the incredibly lavish deal at the time Ezequiel Lavezzi joined, but the documents obtained by Football Leaks proves the rumors and more. At that time, Lavezzi was rumored to be paid at $503k per week, but it turns out to be substantially more than that amount.

Ezequiel Lavezzi's contract at Hebei China Fortune is revealed to be at €53.2M ($56M) to be paid in the course of 23 months, including €2.3M ($2.4M) per month for the entire duration of his contract. In comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo gets paid only €21M ($22M) every year on his current contract.

Chinese clubs have been on a spending spree during this year's transfer window, and given the amount of money they can offer, Ezequiel Lavezzi's contract won't be the highest for long come next year.
