Xbox One VS PlayStation 4: Suda51 Says the Game Matters, Not the Platform

Suda51 on Xbox One VS PlayStation 4: The Platform Involved is Not As Important As the Game Itself

We might be that much closer to finally seeing both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One next to each other for a final evaluation of the tech and specs involved and how they match up against each other. Since there’s still a bit of time left before the release of Xbox One, it seems like the battle to gain the upper hand is still on. However, according to Goichi Suda, the battle isn't about the platform, but rather the game that’s being played.

Goichi Suda (better known as Suda51), Grasshopper Manufacturer CEO, was recently in an interview with
Expansive DLC, where he talked about the next generation consoles, how they relay to indie game development, and how it’s not important to judge the platform, but rather the game involved.

“The current consoles are still hot, they’re still alive too, so I don’t know,” Suda stated. “I guess what’s more important is the video game itself and not the platform it’s on, and I think it’s really important to be able to have the chance to play all kinds of different games – not just mega AAA titles but indie games [too].”

“You know, Indie games are not necessarily poorly made, I think nowadays we are shifting towards the era where you get to play all kinds of different games of different sizes – but they are all equally [as] good.”

Additionally, as far as new developers in the industry trying to gain some ground are concerned, Suda advised that they should focus on building a varied assortment of skills that will help them in the long run.

“I think it’s nice to have multiple skills. I’ve been in the industry for twenty years, and at the beginning you didn’t really have so many of staff members – the first project [I worked on] maybe only had five people, so one person really did a lot,” Suda revealed.

“If you think about it, a writer .. they don’t really produce or create anything physical so I guess having a skill is good, so you can create something physical. The important thing is to contribute to the project and you know, how much you can contribute to the product.”

“Having different skills are really good, I didn’t necessarily even have to write at the beginning but no one was writing so – I started writing. I also worked on designing some parts and so forth, so being able to contribute to a project with multiple skills is really good,” he added.

The PlayStation 4 from Sony is already available for retail, while the Xbox One is currently waiting for its eventual Nov. 22 release date.
