‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ Release Date, Spoilers, News & Update: Sequel Being Planned? ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming 2’ To Debut July 5, 2019? More Details Revealed

The release of the first official trailer of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” on Thursday, Dec. 8, at “Jimmy Kimmel Live” created excitement among fans of Peter Parker. Three days since the event, there is now talk of sequel to the yet-to-be-released movie scheduled to come out in July 2019.

The two-minute, 17-second trailer of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” has, so far, been viewed on YouTube more than 17 million times, indicating moviegoer interest in the superhero film. Ahead of the much-anticipated movie’s premiere on July 7, 2017, Deadline reports that the Culver City studio set a playdate for the sequel “Spider-Man: Homecoming 2” on July 5, 2019.

Independence Day Stretch

“Bad Boys 4” from Sony was initially scheduled to premiere on July 3, 2019, but Sony moved the playdate earlier to May 24, 2019, the Memorial Day weekend, to catch older moviegoers. This would leave the July 3, 2019 premiere date for Culver City’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming 2” with little competition. The only movie, so far, slated on the Independence Day weekend is an unnamed film from Universal Illumination as its potential competitor.

While Culver City is risking itself by producing a “Spider-Man: Homecoming 2” when there is a risk a sequel would become dated due to the underperformance of the original film, Forbes writes that the July 5, 2019 playdate for the sequel is a smart date for a Sony franchise. It added the Independence Day weekend is a better day for Marvel Cinematic Universe since it would be shown after “Transformers 7” and two weeks before the new “Indiana Jones” movie of Walt Disney premieres.

Something Wrong With Trailer

Meanwhile, sharp-eyed fans of “Spider-Man: Homecoming” who saw the trailer noticed something wrong with the get-up of the bank robber masquerading as Thor. The mask worn by the robber who pretends to be Thor appears like having been taken from the comics since he is wearing a helmet which the superhero does not wear on Earth, Comicbook reports.
