World Music Industry News & Update: Adele, ColdPlay, The 1975; Victorious At BBC Music Awards

Adele came out a big winner at the BBC Music Awards on Monday (Dec. 12). The British diva won both the fan-voted album of the year award for 25 and the songs of the year honor for "Hello," while Coldplay and The 1975 also put a mark that night.

Five awards were given out on the night, with Adele gaining two of the biggest awards in "BBC Radio 2 Album of the Year," from her 2015 album '25' and "Song of the Year ('Hello')." The 1975 picked up the "BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year" for their cover of One Direction 'What Makes You Beautiful', while Coldplay won the award for "BBC Music British Artist of the Year."

Neither Coldplay or Adele were able to make the Awards, but both artists sent in acceptance speeches. Coldplay sent theirs in from a recent performance in Melbourne, while Adele granted Robbie Williams permission to accept her "Album of the Year" award on her behalf.

"Thank you for this award, I feel a bit bad winning it when the album's been out for so long. Hello again, I'm so sorry I'm not there. I'll be home soon and I can't wait. It's been a long year on the road and this makes me feel a little less homesick. I can't wait for Wembley and then to get back to normal," as the singer said in a statement read by Robbie Williams.

British singer-songwriter Izzy Bizu also received BBC's Introducing Artist of the Year award, which was previously awarded to Jack Garratt in 2015 and Catfish and the Bottlemen in 2014. Meanwhile, "The BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge Performance of the Year" was given to "The 1975" for their hauntingly orchestrated cover of One Direction's What Makes You Beautiful.

"I want to thank Radio 1 for everything basically. They have been intrinsic when it comes to our success with the Live Lounge," as stated by Matt Healy The 1975 front man.
