Call of Duty: Ghosts News - Players Just Don't Use the Wii U

New Info Shows That Wii U is Far From the Preferred Console for Call of Duty: Ghosts

In the last few weeks, at least two universal truths of gaming have come to light:

1. With strong sales and an impressive title as the most played multiplayer game to date, Call of Duty: Ghosts is a success.
2. With not nearly as strong sales, the Wii U is anything but a success, and ranks as dead last among the "next-gen" consoles. It's even theorized that the Xbox One could surpass total sales for Nintendo's system, despite having a lengthy head start.

But combine the smash hit game with a not-so-smash-hit console, surely things would average out, right? Wrong.

We expected that most gamers get their CoD on using anything but the Wii U, ergo, the varying forms of PlayStations, Xboxes, and PC. What we didn't expect was how little people seem to play shooters on any console bearing the word "Nintendo."

According to a leaker with knowledge of November sales from the NPD report, Ghosts on the Wii U just isn't the hit it is on all other platforms. NeoGAFfer "Creamsugar" shared with the boards that of all the sales for the game, the Wii U accounted for a meager 0.33%. A third of a percent.

Let's do the math. Not long after Ghosts launched in November, Activision revealed it had sold / shipped over $1 billion worth of the game. 1% of that comes out to one million. Certainly not terrible, but not desirable either, especially in terms of the money the game is supposed to kind of draw in. But a third of that figure? $330,000.

The most popular version of the game lies with the Xbox 360, followed by the PS3. Looking at next-gen, PS4 takes command, with Xbox One a smidge behind.

Long-term, that spells bad news for Nintendo. Ever since the Wii U launched, a number of third-party developers had passed on developing for the console. Now that this has come to light, the amount of other parties to abandon the Wii U for greener pastures will surely rise, and you can expect Activision not to even bother with it for the next CoD.

Call of Duty: Ghosts takes place in a near future following an attack from space that leaves Los Angeles virtually wiped out, and the United States' infrastructure devastated. Years later, the country is invaded by a new superpower, a conglomerate of South American nations calling itself the "Federation." What's left of America's special forces have come together to form the titular "Ghosts," and it's up to them to wage guerrilla warfare against the Federation in order to protect what remains of the United States, and drive the Federation out.

Beyond the campaign, the game's multiplayer mode, which promises a slew of different customization options for weapons, character camos, and more. Over 30 new weapons are included alongside old favorites like the UMP45 and the M4A1.

Despite not the best reviews ever for a Call of Duty game, Ghosts was a hit right out of the gate. We learned recently thatGhosts is the most played multiplayer game in the world, and was also the top-selling game in November, the month when both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One released.

Festive new DLC is now available that can turn your dog into a vicious wolf, or transform your gun with some truly horrendous looking Christmas sweater camo
